My life these past few weeks has been quite interesting, especially in terms of socializing.
I am at the moment on holiday, far a way from home, doing research work, and trying (its been difficult, sigh...) to have a some what sane and healthy life.
I have during these past few weeks met more random people than I think I have ever done, yet at the same time not meet people for days. Definitely not a very good way to prepare yourself before the new semester starts :P
And what’s interesting is that during this period, I’ve just realized that all these encounters (and non-encounters) have so much affect on my mood.
One day I will meet someone and have this very nice conversation, then I shall be very very happy. Then the next day, I might not be so lucky, and get a bit sad afterwards. Then the next day, ‘shower’ it all off when I meet someone and have a good chat.
The worst is when after a not-so-good meeting, I don’t get to meet people for days (literally). Don’t get me wrong, I do talk to people on the phone, usually those that are close and dear to my heart. Yet still, it can be awfully difficult to shred off that bad feeling which could last for days and days, and stick in your mind.
The worst part is, I am currently deprived of having the opportunity to just ask/call someone I am comfortable enough to just be with, for coffee; you know those that you know you can spend hours and hours with without worrying whether you’re boring them to death or not, or those that you know won’t mind if you're just there, period.
Just like him and her, and also my mom. It's been tough without them nearby.
Then it just hit me,...why in the world am I allowing all this ‘breeze’ affect my ‘walk’. Life should be taken as it is. It’s difficult enough, no need to be worrying in the process. There’s just no point.
I remember a story my dear friend Carolina once told me (yes, she was cheering me up actually) that you should only take what you need in to your ‘basket’. If what’s ‘there’ is not what you need...then go on. If you feel that it’s something worth pondering or knowing about, do take it in. No need to fuss and worry about the encounter, it’s the ‘fruits’ that you should pay attention to.
And dear Caro, thanks for sharing this with me then. I know I should have learnt by now to cope, but...hey, life’s like that, isn’t?
